2016 Season - Week 17

Premiership Down To The Wire Again

After last year’s Hunt for the Papas Fritas went down to the final incompletion of the final game for Ron to hold off Chief, this year’s was won with 39 seconds left in the last game of the second group of games on Sunday. Craig entered the day 10 points ahead of Marcus after Marcus’ record setting 72 point week last week. Patriot TE Martellus Bennet scored for Marcus half way through the first quarter of the early games. When Rishard Matthews caught a Tennessee TD with 2:08 left in the first half Marcus took the lead 539-537. At the end of the early games Craig’s two players Jordan Howard & TJ Hilton hadn’t scored and when the Patriots beat Miami Marcus got 6 more points from his head coach to lead by 8 points. Marcus was playing with just five players this week as Buffalo had made Tyrod Taylor inactive, Dallas dressed Ezekiel Elliott but he didn’t play and Pittsburgh benched their three stars including Le’Veon Bell so going into the second set of games Marcus had his kicker Matt Bryant and TE Jimmy Graham trying to hold off Craig’s five players Andy Reid, Wil Lutz, Drew Brees, David Johnson and Michael Crabtree. Early in the first quarter Craig and Arizona lost star RB Johnson to a knee injury while Crabtree was shut out by Denver. Much of the focus was on Atlanta v New Orleans as Kansas City moved easily ahead of San Diego and Marcus’ TE Jimmy Graham was shut out by San Francisco. So once Kansas City won all eye’s turned to the end of the Falcons/Saints game. Through three quarters Craig’s kicker had scored one less than Marcus’ and in the fourth quarter Drew Brees through his first TD pass but the Saints went for two. They did the same again with just 2:47 to go when Mark Ingram ran the ball in. So Craig had missed two PAT chances and when the Chief’s won the scores were tied. Saints got the ball back quickly and with just 39 seconds left Drew Brees through his second TD pass and Wil Lutz kicked the PAT and as Marcus now had no players left Craig won the BUMS by 4 points. The battle for third went down to the final (Sunday Night) game. Aaron led Chief by 11 points and had no more players while Chief saw his receiver Randall Cobb made inactive but Aaron Rodgers was playing for him. With 2:50 left in the game Rodgers threw his fourth TD and a two-point conversion and Chief passed Aaron 536 to 534. A huge congratulations to Craig who becomes the 13th champion in our 22 years of existence. Going Down There was even more drama at the bottom of the Premiership where Dave G and Cheryl were already down (75 and 48 points from safety respectively). Wayne started the final day 21 points behind Johnnie and 27 behind Ron. Johnnie got early game TDs from Jonathan Stewart, Jarvis Landry and Kelvin Benjamin so when KC kicker Cairo Santos scored 13 points Johnnie had moved onto 431 points. Ron was playing without Marcus Mariota and Doug Martin and got one TD in the early games from Gary Barnidge followed by an early TD in the second games from Antonio Gates but his kicker Redskin Dustin Hopkins only scored 4 points as Washington failed to make the playoffs and so he finished on 422 points. Meantime Wayne got 8 points from his kicker Jason Myers and 8 points from Julian Edelman in the early games followed by a TD each from Thomas Rawls and Julio Jones and three TD passes from Carson Palmer in the second games. Wayne had 37 points going into the final game with his Head Coach still to play. So when Green Bay won the final game of the season Wayne received another 6 points giving him the highest score of the week at 43 points and tied Ron on 422 points. So either Ron or Wayne will be relegated along with Cheryl and Dave G. The tie breaker is the best score in the first round of the BUMSBowl (as used to decide Aaron was the Conference Champ over George back in 2012). If Ron and Wayne have the same points in the Wildcard round we will use the BUMSBowl tie breaker of the Momentum Rule where the player that scored latest in any game is ruled to have “Momentum” and wins. The second tie-breaker is total yards rushing & receiving by your outfield players.
